HOEEP

Hispanic Orchard Employee 教育 Program

The HOEEP certificate program is a nationally recognized program designed to fit the 学生的需要.

HOEEP offers seven 19-credit programs : basic and advanced horticulture, integrated pest 管理 technician, farm 管理, introduction to viticulture and advanced viticulture, and vineyard 管理. 类 are designed to accommodate students’ 工作安排. 

Because HOEEP is an I-BEST, or Integrated Basic 教育 and Skills Training, program, the courses feature two instructors: one to teach college-level academic or technical content, the other to teach basic skills in reading, math, writing or the English 语言.

HOEEP is designed to increase the professional abilities of agricultural employees (and their contributions to operations) through greater understanding of:

 The Hispanic orchard employee education program (HOEEP) consists of approximately 19 weeks of instruction beginning in mid-October and continuing until mid-March. 类 are held three times each week in four-hour blocks from mid-afternoon to early evening. 类 take place in communities throughout Central Washington as well as on the 皇冠8868会员登录校园.

学生 should have basic English conversational skills and some ability to read 用西班牙语写作. Regular attendance is a necessity; therefore students (and their employers) must be committed to attending all classes to obtain maximum benefits and 为了完成课程.

Academic preparation may allow students to take some of the first-year tree fruit production program's agricultural courses on an independent-study basis. 资格 for this program will be determined by instructors on a case-by-case basis.

基本园艺: introduction to viticulture, plant physiology, soils, irrigation, integrated pest 管理, pruning/training, equipment maintenance and calibration, safety, orchard economics, personnel 管理, and recertification credits. 教学语言为西班牙语. Includes fruit industry field trips.

英语和数学 : phonics, reading, basic writing, listening comprehension, communication skills, basic mathematical operations, word problems, introduction to 电脑, and subjects concerning everyday life and citizenship. 教学语言为英语.

More in-depth focus on beginning level subjects: higher levels of English and math, emphasis on economics and modern production systems. 所有的教学都是英语的. 学生 will be placed in the advanced level with approval of the instructors.

西班牙语授课, this course introduces students to the production and 管理 酿酒葡萄和它们的汁液. Includes plant physiology, canopy 管理, soils, irrigation, plant nutrition, thinning, harvest, storage, marketing and vineyard financial 管理. Prerequisites: basic command of English 语言.
西班牙语授课. Offers more in-depth information about the production systems and 管理 酿酒葡萄和它们的汁液. Includes site selection and vineyard establishment, soils, pests and irrigation 管理, human resources, vineyard business plan, marketing 以及整个农场生态系统. Prerequisites: basic command of English 语言.
密集的 technical instruction to prepare Latino vineyard employees as pest 管理 scouts and to introduce them to basic vineyard economics and 管理. 指令 is mostly in Spanish, emphasizing terminology in English. 这门课的目的 is to prepare students for mid-管理 and 管理 positions.
